Very cool fan postcard from the performance night club, the Jewel Box Lounge. Originally located at 3223 Troost Avenue (also sometimes listed as 3219 Troost), the Jewel Box Lounge operated from early 1948 to March 6, 1982, but it was not until the late 1950s that this club began to feature femme mimics. Unlike the lip-syncing drag queens of today, many of the Jewel Boxs early drag performers actually sang and performed comedy. Arguably the most well-known performer who performed at the Jewel Box Lounge was Rae Bourbon (who can be seen standing in the middle of a group of performers on a postcard below). In 1972, the owner of the Jewel Box Lounge, John Tuccillo, moved the club to a new location one mile away at 3110 Main Street.

The reason for the move was the 1968 riot after the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. Which destroyed several buildings nearby. The move from Troost to Main also coincided with a shift from actual singing to lip-syncing. Sadly the new location was never as popular as the first, and the Jewel Box Lounge closed ten years after it moved to the new location. This postcard is from the original 3223 Troost location and is likely from the 1950's - 1960's.

It has discolored some and has some marks. The tabs used to fan out the postcard have some separation/paper damage, still intact.

There is a crease at the top right of the right and middle fan. There are some light indentions (pen point size) in the left fan. The colors are still vibrant and bright and the entire piece is sill very displayable. Add this piece to your collection today! 7.00 inches long from top to bottom.

5.00 inches wide across the top. The WHO (World Health Organization) has announced that packages are safe even if being sent from a place that has the virus (very loosely worded).
